Το 2013 έµαθα ότι πάσχω από µεταστατικό καρκίνο στο στήθος – ενός τύπου που δεν επιδέχεται θεραπεία. Αυτή η σειρά έργων είναι ένας εικαστικός διάλογος που αναπτύσσω µε τον εαυτό µου πάνω στο θέµα αυτό, από την ώρα που άρχισε. Είναι µια προσωπική µεταφορική ερµηνεία του πόσο πρέπει να υποφέρει κανείς για να εκτιµήσει αληθινά τη ζωή.
“Δεν έχω την επιθυµία να ζωγραφίσω τον κόσµο µε σκοτεινότερα χρώµατα από αυτά που έχει, αλλά καθώς ο κόσµος δίνει έδαφος στο σκοτάδι, γίνεται ακόµα πιο δύσκολο να αγνοήσεις την ιδέα ότι ο κόσµος είναι ο εαυτός σου. Είναι ένα πράγµα που εσύ έχεις δηµιουργήσει λίγο ή πολύ. Και όταν θα πάψεις να υπάρχεις θα πάψει κι ο κόσµος. Θα υπάρξουν κόσµοι άλλοι. Φυσικά. Eίναι όµως οι κόσµοι άλλων ανθρώπων και η ιδέα ότι τους αντιλαµβάνεσαι ήταν πάντα µια ψευδαίσθηση – τελικά. Ο δικός σου κόσµος, ο µόνος που έχει κάποια σηµασία, θα έχει φύγει. Και δεν θα ξανάρθει ποτέ”.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer – of a type that’s virtually incurable. This collection of work is a visual dialogue I have been having with myself on the subject since it began. It’s a personal metaphoric interpretation of how bad it has to get for one to really appreciate life.

H Alek Lindus γεννήθηκε στο Παρίσι το 1965 και µορφώθηκε από την Ελλάδα στην Ελλάδα, από το 1976. Σπούδασε Καλές Τέχνες στο Ηνωµένο Βασίλειο και είναι µέλος του Επιµελητηρίου Εικαστικών Τεχνών Ελλάδος. Χρησιµοποιεί φιλµ και παλιές φωτογραφικές µηχανές από το 2006 και σχεδόν αποκλειστικά Polaroid από το 2015.
Alek Lindus was born in Paris in 1965 and has been educated by Greece since 1976. Studied fine art in the UK and is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. She has been working photographically with film and old cameras since 2006 and almost exclusively Polaroid since 2015.
