ποιος άραγε θυμόταν;
Bio
Leah Argyropoulou – Fading traces
Memory,
the proper name of sorrows,
singular—
only singular,
and indeclinable.
Kiki Dimoula
At the top of the staircase,
a suitcase waited.
Packed before the decision was made.
On the worn wall,
a wedding photograph
hung slightly askew—
faded smiles
that never had the chance to be straightened.
Somewhere between departure
and promise,
the house opened itself.
In the kitchen,
one cupboard remained closed.
Plates still neatly arranged,
meals forever waiting.
The table kept its places.
Grandfather at one end,
Grandmother across from him.
The family between them,
voices soft,
years untouched by haste.
The walls held on to the silence.
Who, I wonder, still remembered?
The mirror grew old
before the faces disappeared.
It no longer shows who you are,
only who once stood before it.
Each time you look into it,
someone is missing.
Blankets carefully folded,
winters that never came.
On the wall, Greece drawn on paper—
roads without footsteps.
The brass bed
asked for no sleep.
It was hastily covered,
like something too precious to throw away.
The tarpaulin kept the dust.
Beneath it,
time.
It remained closed for years…
Now it has been opened in haste,
in disarray…
Not to recover what was lost,
but to reveal what remained.
The shutters had long been closed.
The room was left in silence.
Yet the light found its way back inside,
without asking permission.
It did not bring warmth…
It did not leave…
It simply remained—
the only visitor.
Whispers of prayer lingered behind.
Light slips through the window,
while the icons gaze on in silence…
Two lives that worked the land
without haste.
Years side by side,
like furrows that were never parted.
The door was sealed.
Not so it would be forgotten,
but so it could remain exactly as it was.
The house was left behind.
Life carried on ahead.
And between the two,
memory
found a place to stand.
Bio
Leah Argyropoulou was born in Athens and studied Political Science and Public Administration at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. After a 22-year career in the banking sector, she decided to pursue the path that truly reflected her passions: graphic design and photography.
She initially focused on the design and production of photo books dedicated to school memories, travel, and personal stories. This creative work gradually led her to seek a deeper relationship with the photographic image.
In 2019, she began studying photography, and since 2021 she has been an active member of the photography group Diadromes, where she continues to develop her artistic practice through fine art photography.
Her work is a form of personal artistic expression. Through a poetic and atmospheric visual language, she explores memory, time, absence, and the traces people leave behind in the places they once inhabited.
For her, photography is not merely a means of documenting reality, but a way of storytelling. Each image serves as an invitation to reflection and emotion, where light, texture, and detail become narrative elements.
Her practice lies at the intersection of documentary and fine art photography, seeking beauty in the ephemeral, the weathered, and the almost imperceptible. Through long-term photographic projects, she creates images that go beyond depicting places or events, inviting viewers to pause, observe, and reconnect with their own memories.
She believes that every place, every object, and every trace of human presence holds a story worth telling.
