εποχή, ώρα, νιότη παρέρχονται

Υπάρχει μια εποχή που δύουν ταυτόχρονα το φεγγάρι και οι Πλειάδες**, η άνοιξη. Έχει παρέλθει ο χρόνος, η ώρα του χειμώνα, και προβάλλει η ώρα-ωραία-ομορφιά.
Μια συλλογή εικόνων κατά τη διάρκεια παραμονής στο νησί της Λέσβου, στο διάστημα 2019-2020. Ένα προσωπικό ημερολόγιο της δωδεκάμηνης διαμονής στο ολιγο-κατοίκητο χωριό της Άντισσας Λέσβου, μόλις 9 χιλιόμετρα από τον τόπο της Ερεσού, τον τόπο καταγωγής της Σαπφούς. Αντιληπτή από την πρώτη στιγμή η πηγή έμπνευσης της ποιήτριας: η απομονωμένη, άγρια, και «σεληνιασμένη» ορεινή και θαλάσσια φύση του τόπου. Περισσότερο από όλες τις εποχές, η άνοιξη εντείνει αυτά τα στοιχεία. Αντλώντας έμπνευση από αυτό το ποίημα, προσπαθώ να οπτικοποιήσω τις σιωπηλές συζητήσεις που κάνει κανείς με τον εαυτό του και τη φύση ως μέσο αντιμετώπισης και επικοινωνίας σε καταστάσεις αναγκαστικής απομόνωσης. «Συνομιλίες» για ό,τι έχει απωλεσθεί, με στόχο να διατηρηθεί αυτό που απέμεινε.

*Μέδουσα: Από την ιαπωνική λέξη 海月, που σημαίνει «θαλάσσιο φεγγάρι».
Bio
Ο Αλέξανδρος Ζαφειρίδης γεννήθηκε το 1994 στη Φιλαδέλφεια των ΗΠΑ και έζησε εκεί μέχρι την ηλικία των έξι ετών. Το 2000 επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα. Αποφοίτησε από την Ιατρική Σχολή του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης το 2018.
Παρακολούθησε σεμινάρια σύγχρονης φωτογραφίας στη Σχολή Σύγχρονης Φωτογραφίας Stereosis στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Το έργο του έχει συμπεριληφθει σε έντυπα και ηλεκτρονικά τεύχη, σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα (Μουσείο Μπενάκη-Φεστιβάλ Φωτογραφίας Αθηνών, MOMus-Θεσσαλονίκη, Φεστιβάλ Herizons II-Θεσσαλονίκη, Stereosis SSP-Θεσσαλονίκη, Φεστιβάλ Photometria-Ιωάννινα, Φεστιβάλ Photopolis-Αγρίνιο, House of Lucie Αθήνα, Γκαλερί ΔΛ Αθήνα) και στο εξωτερικό (εκθέσεις “FAKE” και “MEMORY” στην CTypeMag Gallery, Μπανγκόκ, “What is the FIrst Image you Remember”, Zeroartspace, Τόκιο, Ιαπωνία, Cambridge Photo Gallery). Το έργο του «So Much Love» εκδόθηκε από το Athens- VOID (2019) σε μορφή zine και έπειτα ως αυτοέκδοση με τη μορφη photobook τον 09/2023 σε συνεργασία με την L.LABS. Ατομική έκθεση με το έργο «So Much Love» στο House of Lucie Athens (επιμέλεια E. Μουζακίτη), 2024, και στη Σχολή Σύγχρονης Φωτογραφίας Stereosis, Θεσσαλονίκη, 2025.
Alexandros Zafeiridis – Jellyfish*
The moon and the Pleiades have set,
it is the middle of the night,
time is passing,
but I lay down alone.

The Moon and the Pleiades** star cluster, set/vanish at midnight during a specific time period; spring, signifying the passing of wintertime and the beginning of time/beauty***.
A series of images created during a 15-month stay (2019-2020) on the island of Lesvos, Greece, and specifically in the small village of Antissa, just 9 km away from Eressos, home of the lyric poet Sappho. The poet’s inspiration was imminent throughout: the isolated, wild, and “mooncrazed” land- and sea-scapes. Spring time elevates those characteristics; the moon setting the pace. Based/insired by this poem I attempt to visualize the wordless conversations one forms with themselves and nature as a means of coping and communication in situations of forced seclusion. “Talks” about what has been lost, in order to maintain what is still left.

*Jellyfish: From the Japanese 海月, meaning sea moon.
**Pleiades: from Ancient Greek, derives from plein (“to sail”) because of the cluster’s importance in signifying the sailing season. Also known as The Seven Sisters open star cluster.
***Time: In ancient Greek the meaning of time could be expressed with the word χρόνος, meaning the objective concept of time, and the word ώρα, pertaining to a specific time period during which something is at its “best”, and therefore can be called ωραιο=beautiful; thus, joining the concept of beauty/youth and time.
+Princess Kaguya: princess from the Moon who is discovered as a baby inside of a glowing bamboo plant. Her beauty attracts five suitors, whom she turns away by challenging them each with an impossible task. She later attracts the affection of the Emperor of Japan. During one of her many conversations with the moon, her celestial origin is revealed, and she is supposed to forget all that has happened on Earth and return to the Moon.
Bio
Alexandros Zafeiridis was born in 1994 in Philadelphia- U.S.A., and lived there until the age of six. In 2000 they moved back to Greece. Graduated from medical school from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) in 2018.
He studied contemporary photography seminars in Stereosis School for contemporary photography in Thessaloniki. His work has been part of printed and online issues, group exhibitions in Greece ( Benaki Museum-Athens Photo Festival, MOMus-Thessaloniki, Herizons II Festival-Thessaloniki, Stereosis SSP-Thessaloniki,Photometria Festival-Ioannina, Photopolis Festival-Agrinio, House of Lucie Athens, ΔΛ Gallery Athens) and abroad (exhibitions “FAKE” and “MEMORY” at CTypeMag Gallery, Bangkok, “What is the FIrst Image you Remember ”, Zeroartspace, Tokyo, Japan, Cambridge Photo Gallery). Their work “So Much Love” was published in the form of a zine be Athens-VOID (2019) and selfpublished as a photobook in 09/2023 in collaboration with L.LABS. Solo exhibition portraying the work “So MuchLove” in House of Lucie Athens (curation E. Mouzakiti), 2024, and Stereosis School for Contemporary Photography, Thessaloniki, GR, 2025.
