Η θάλασσα υπήρξε πάντοτε σύμβολο ελευθερίας, κίνησης και ζωής.
Στο project «Παγιδευμένοι», όμως, μετατρέπεται σε σκηνή εγκλωβισμού. Οι εικόνες αποκαλύπτουν έναν υποθαλάσσιο κόσμο όπου το όριο ανάμεσα στο φυσικό και το τεχνητό έχει πια χαθεί. Ψάρια κινούνται μέσα σε πλαστικά περιτυλίγματα, αντικείμενα ανθρώπινης προέλευσης επιπλέουν ανάμεσα σε μορφές ζωής, και το ανθρώπινο χέρι εμφανίζεται άλλοτε ως σωτήρας κι άλλοτε ως εισβολέας.
Η θάλασσα, με την απατηλή της απεραντοσύνη, λειτουργεί ως καθρέφτης μιας βαθύτερης αντίφασης: φαινομενικά ανοιχτή και ελεύθερη, είναι στην πραγματικότητα γεμάτη παγίδες, περιβλήματα και σιωπές που βαραίνουν.
Κάτω από την επιφάνεια, η ανάσα επιβραδύνεται — και η ελευθερία αρχίζει να μοιάζει με ψευδαίσθηση.
Μέσα από αυτές τις εικόνες επιχειρώ μια υπαρξιακή κατάδυση στις αόρατες παγίδες που μας περιβάλλουν· στις δομές, στις συνήθειες και στις εσωτερικές φυλακές που μας κρατούν δεμένους. Το νερό γίνεται χώρος σιωπής και αντανάκλασης, ένας τόπος όπου η ανάσα βαραίνει και ο χρόνος παγώνει.
Η ασπρόμαυρη αισθητική απογυμνώνει την εικόνα από κάθε περιττή ομορφιά, αφήνοντας μόνο το φως και το σκοτάδι να μιλήσουν. Εκεί, ανάμεσα στις αντιθέσεις, αποκαλύπτεται η φθορά, η ψευδαίσθηση της κίνησης, η αργή μεταμόρφωση της ζωής σε σιωπή.
«Παγιδευμένοι» είναι ένα έργο για την εσωτερική φθορά και τις αόρατες παγίδες που μας εγκλωβίζουν.
Για την ψευδαίσθηση της ελευθερίας —
και τον αργό, σιωπηλό τρόπο με τον οποίο χανόμαστε μέσα της.
Bio:
Η Petia Angelova γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στη Φιλιππούπολη, Βουλγαρία, και από το 1996 ζει και εργάζεται στην Ελλάδα.
Ασχολείται με τη φωτογραφία από το 2017, όταν μια παρορμητική αγορά φωτογραφικής μηχανής την οδήγησε σε έναν νέο τρόπο θέασης του κόσμου.
Έχει συμμετάσχει σε ομαδικές εκθέσεις, ενώ φωτογραφίες της έχουν διακριθεί σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς.

Petia Angelova – Trapped
The sea has always been a symbol of freedom, movement, and life.
In the project “Trapped,” however, it becomes a stage of confinement.
The images reveal an underwater world where the boundary between the natural and the artificial has vanished. Fish drift inside plastic wrappings, human-made objects float among living forms, and the human hand appears at times as a savior and at others as an intruder.
The sea, with its deceptive vastness, becomes a mirror of a deeper contradiction: seemingly open and free, yet filled with traps, enclosures, and silences that weigh heavily.
Beneath the surface, breath slows — and freedom begins to feel like an illusion.
Through these images, I attempt an existential descent into the invisible traps that surround us — the structures, habits, and inner prisons that keep us bound.
Water becomes a space of silence and reflection, a place where breath grows heavy and time stands still.
The black-and-white aesthetic strips the image of all ornament, leaving only light and darkness to speak.
There, between the contrasts, decay reveals itself — the illusion of movement, the slow transformation of life into silence.
“Trapped” is a work about inner decay and the unseen cages that confine us.
About the illusion of freedom —
and the slow, silent way we fade within it.
Bio
Petia Angelova was born and raised in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and since 1996 she has been living and working in Greece.
She has been involved in photography since 2017, when an impulsive purchase of a camera led her to a new way of seeing the world.
She has participated in group exhibitions, and her photographs have been distinguished in international competitions.
