Alexis Vasilikos, Masks & the Oceanic, solo show
Στην τελευταία ατομική του έκθεση ο Αλέξης Βασιλικός παρουσιάζει τις σειρές Masks & the Oceanic στις οποίες καταπιάνεται με δύο παράλληλες πραγματικότητες μέσα από τη φωτογραφία. Από τη μια πλευρά την σειρά Masks συνθέτουν εξαιρετικά επεξεργασμένα αφηρημένα έργα, κατασκευασμένα στην ουσία από μετα-εικόνες οι οποίες παραπέμπουν από τη μία στα παραδοσιακά αναλογικά φωτογράμματα και από την άλλη στην αφηρημένη ζωγραφική και είναι φτιαγμένα από υλικό όπως σφάλματα, γρατσουνιές, σκόνη, θόρυβο ή φως, στοιχεία τα οποία συνήθως οι φωτογράφοι απομακρύνουν κατά την επεξεργασία των εικόνων και τα οποία θεωρούνται ατέλειες ή σκουπίδια, γίνονται εδώ το πρωτογενές υλικό για αυτούς τους άκρως αφηρημένους φωτο-πίνακες. Από την άλλη πλευρά η σειρά Oceanic είναι μια σειρά από βαριά επεξεργασμένες εικόνες τοπίων με αναφορές στον Ρομαντισμό οι οποίες περιστρέφονται γύρω από την ιδέα του ωκεάνιου αισθήματος, μια φράση που επινοήθηκε από τον Romain Rolland για να περιγράψει την αίσθηση της ένωσης ως ένα με το σύμπαν.

Alexis Vasilikos, Masks & the Oceanic, solo show
Masks & the Oceanic is the latest solo show by Alexis Vasilikos that deals with two juxtaposing realities. On one hand Masks is a series of highly processed abstract photographic works, a series of meta-images that stand between traditional analogue photograms and abstract painting. They are composed by photographic material such as glitches, scratches, noise or light. Textures that usually photographers remove when editing the images and are usually seen as imperfections or waste become here the primary material for these highly abstracted photo-paintings. On the other hand the Oceanic series is a series of heavily manipulated images of landscapes that are referencing to Romanticism and revolve around the idea of the oceanic feeling, a phrase coined by Romain Rolland to refer to the sensation of being one with the universe.
