The Sound of Light
Year: 2019
This picture captures the moment when a group of blind & visually impaired people “watching" a film in a theatre in Shanghai. There are 18 million blind & visually impaired people in China. The country is estimated to have the largest number of blind people in the world. Audio description service is not yet available nor common in this country. For blind people, watching movie is an impossible dream. In the past ten years, to make movies more accessible to these people, some volunteer organizations have been exploring ways. One of the ideas is Live Audio Description. The narrator sits in the screening room and does live narration while the film is playing. The photo was taken in May 2018 at Cathay Theatre (a historical theater in Shanghai) when a monthly live Audio Description movie screening event was taking place. The lady at the bottom right corner was narrating for the audiences. Most of the narrators are famous news anchors, TV/radio show hosts, and voice artists. The whole services are provided for free to local blind & visually impaired people. The biggest wish of these volunteer organizations is to get more legislative support, so that blind & visually impaired people can go to any theatre at any time to enjoy a movie just like normal people

Grayson Perry - Birth
Year: 2019
I have been working closely with Grayson Perry for 5 years developing conceptual campaigns for his social documentary films. This 'Birth' concept is designed and inspired by the inexhaustible mother and child motif brought upto date for the 21st century and all shot 'in camera' at a studio near his home. Baby Dylan was supplied by the client's press officer recently on maternity leave. We thought it would be a great early memory.

The Colors
Year: 2019
Three women workers painting traditional Myanmar umbrellas. This image was taken to create the colors red, green, blue and yellow. I set up this photograph up with these colours deliberately. The umbrellas are traditional in Myanmar and women workers paint them in their daily working life. When I saw these beautiful umbrellas, I was inspired by the colours and patterns. I shot this scene four times and it took four months. It includes a special colored umbrella which is different from normal umbrellas, without black lines. I eventually set up all things - the umbrellas, the working women wearing primary colors, and including the beautiful patterns.

against the sun
Year: 2019
Swimming enclosures made up from thick rope meshes are pretty common in NSW (Australia), they get colonized by many forms of marine life seahorses in particular, for this reason among divers we call them "seahorses-hotels". I intentionally dive at dawn or dusk near these nets to catch seahorses in the best light. This picture was taken at the base of the net (~3m of water) right before the sunset, the seahorse was standing right against the sun, I placed my camera (D800+Tokina 10/17 in Sea&Sea Housing, equipped with 2 Sea&Sea YS250pro substrobes fitted with special domed diffusers by BubbleScuba) right in front of it and snapped 2-3 frames before that the surge moved the net too close, the seahorse became aware of me and turned away. Yellow coloration for this seahorses are not that uncommon although the most diffused color is white and they live usually on white sponges
